Birds of Guajome Nature Walk

Birds of Guajome Nature Walk with Paula Theobald

The cost was $3.00 for parking free for campers/ Cheap Day Trip

Paula covered conservation and proper bird watching techniques. Also, she showed us

  • The Sibley Field Guide to birds of Western North America and a few other bird books
  • Binoculars- can be expensive- I’m sticking with the old pair we were given by a family member.
  • A Birding appt for iphones that works well for her-  ibird its expensive $19.99  but looks like it has lots of bird information

When we walked along the lake a family was feeding the birds bread. We were able to see the  Great-Tailed Grackle, Red-Winged Blackbird ,Brown headed cowbird,American coots, Black Phoebe,Western Bluebird  and of course the Mallard Ducks.

Then hiding  in the thin reeds was the Great Blue Heron. He blended right in. If not for Paula’s keen eye I wouldn’t have spotted him. What a sight it was when he flew away.

Walking along the nature trail the bird sounds surrounded us. It made my day when a cute little song sparrow walked right in front of me.
