Birds of Guajome Nature Walk

Birds of Guajome Nature Walk with Paula Theobald

The cost was $3.00 for parking or free for campers/ Cheap Day Trip

Paula covered conservation and proper bird watching techniques. Also, she showed us

  • The Sibley Field Guide to birds of Western North America and a few other bird books
  • Binoculars: can be very expensive for now I’m sticking with the old pair that was given to us.
  • Apps: the ibird for $19.99 is the app Paula uses. Its expensive but has lots of information about birds.

When we walked along the lake a family was feeding the birds bread. We were able to see the  Great-Tailed Grackle, Red-Winged Blackbird ,Brown headed cowbird,American Coots, Black Phoebe,Western Bluebird  and of course the Mallard Ducks.

Then hiding  in the thin reeds was the Great Blue Heron. He blended right in the reeds.  What a sight it was when he flew away.

Walking along the nature trail bird sounds surrounded us. It made my day when a cute little song sparrow walked right in front of me.

Wildlife Spotting with Paula Theobald & Kevin Shaw

  • Black Crowned Night Heron

  1. It sounds like you had a wonderful (and inexpensive) day birdwatching. I didn’t think to look for a bird-watching app – thanks for the tip. There’s an app for EVERYTHING! 😉

  2. There’s a bird sanctuary not too far from my house that offers freebies every once in a while. Always been meaning to go. I don’t own binoculars but my camera has a great zoom lens. I thought you would post some pictures you took yourself. 😦
Anyway, thanks for this neat idea and inspiration! Also, gotta get the Peterson Bird App.
